About / History of Webster's Twinfisher ...Webster's Twinfisher was established in 1987 To exclusively provide a safe and stable boat for all to enjoy. Ron Webster spent fives years making cardboard boats out of breakfast cereal packets and testing them in the bathtub before he perfected a unique twin-hull design that has attracted national acclaim. "When I first began messing around with a prototype in my garage, everyone told me it would never work", Ron said. "They reckoned I was just wasting my time and money." "But I was very concerned about the dangers of flat-bottomed fishing boats because the one I had nearly tipped over every time my two boys moved around in the boat" "I knew the catamaran was more stable but they can make you terribly wet from splashing and are expensive because they need two engines. With a single engine there had always been too much cavitation". "I was determined to defy the experts and work out how to build a twin-hull that operated with a single engine in the middle". Ron made dozens of cardboard models, put them in the bathtub and stirred up the water with his hands to watch how they coped with the miniature waves. After five years of tub testing and four or five full-size prototypes, he came up with a hull that worked. The floor is totally sealed off from the sponsons on the bottom, which means that no water can get into the boat even if both sponsons are holed. In the unlikely even of that happening, the boat will still float as a normal punt. "Anything will tip over but it is very, very, difficult to tip this one over", Ron said. Ron, who had been a specialist welder at Email's white goods factory, for 22 years, gave up the secure job when people kept asking to buy boats from him that he had made for himself. "I decided to have a go on my own so we rented a big shed, made the presses we needed and went into full-time production" The Webster boats are built from scratch, using sheet aluminium and cutting and pressing all the shapes themselves. Now after 17 years of production and a large variation of different models Ron is starting to slow down, due to health reasons. Daniel and Kelly Schofield took over the running of the business in April 2004 with Ron still being there for advice and new designs. Daniel and Kelly grew up in Cattai and Oakville west of Sydney and lived for 4 years in South Windsor before there big move in April 2004 to take over the business. They have left behind many family and friends but are enjoying the country lifestyle. "No more of that Sydney traffic" Daniel says. "What used to take me 1 hour to get to work now only takes me 5 minutes, its a great lifestyle" Daniel brings to the business a extensive knowlege of the aluminium industry working with a large company in Smithfield for nearly 10 years. Kelly has a long history in sales and marketing industry and is hoping to bring more sales and improve the marketing side of Websters Twinfisher. "Our number one goal was to have a website so customers from all over can see our range and hopefully get a much more clearer view of these boats and how great they really are" Kelly says. Daniel and Kelly continued with all the same employees that Ron and Heather had employeed. "There is absolutley no change in the design or layouts of the boats" Kelly says. "We work very closely with our dealers to give them the best boat at the end of the day and any queries they may have we are happy to work together to improve or continue the way the boats are designed and fitted out". The Websters promise to the customer is that when they purchase one of there boats they get total satisfaction from performance & reliability, especially stability which is very important factor when you are out on the water, And for that fisherman who wants to catch plenty of fish!
